2.0 Final out the door!

Posted in Dashboard at 3:58 pm by Kamal

Radar in Motion 2.0 final is now complete. I have made several fixes and enhancements based on feedback from users. Thank you to all who send comments and suggestions! One of the biggest changes is that the widget now remembers a single map without it being added to the favorites. What this means is that if you used version 1.4 and didn’t like having to use the “+” when you only viewed a single map, you no longer need to do that. So for single-map viewing, 2.0 acts just like 1.4. Here is a full list of changes:

  • Removed up and down arrows to move between maps in favor of map counter button, click on it to switch to next map (or use up and down arrow keys)
  • If no favorites exist, single map displayed is remembered when the widget is restarted
  • Added option to rotate to next map at end of animation sequence
  • Removes all preferences when widget instance is removed
  • Several speed and memory optimizations
  • Information on last map not added to favorites remembered when flipping to back of widget
  • Fix: Severe weather alerts would not disappear after they were over
  • Fix: The widget could rotate maps (and therefore use CPU cycles) even when Dashboard was hidden
  • Fix: More detailed maps (300-mile and 100-mile) would not appear despite their being available
  • Fix: When set to save maps, switching the detail level would just add maps to current rotation and not retrieve all maps at new detail level
  • Fix: If using city, state combination, weather.com URL for weather required additional click in browser

As usual, if you have any problems or comments, please leave them here or email me. Enjoy!

Downloaded and installed… however, it doesn’t seem to like updating on activation if map is xx minutes old. Have to refresh the widget to update the map.

rufuses to update after i enter my zip code or my city name. It just stays on the default map. After i change and click done it say it is updating but it stay on the defaul map. When i rotate the widget to check the settings everything I have changed has stayed to what i changed it to except the zip code.

If I select a european satellite and choose NOAA as a source the widget freezes.
Have to remove widget from dashboard and but it back to get it to work again.

I fixed the issues that Nick and Bio mentioned. Just a note, European satellites are not available through NOAA.

With regard to Nathan’s comment, I had inadvertently set it so that the widget would allow you enter a ZIP code even if you didn’t have “Regional Radar” selected from “Map.” I have now fixed it.

is there some way I can use automater or something to automatically save images for extended periods of time?

To my knowledge, the only way Automator would be able to save maps for extended periods of times (beyond the save maps feature built into the widget) would be to tell it to copy maps out of the location where they are stored, ~/Library/Application Support/RadarInMotion. Of course, they would just be the stored jpg images without any animation.

Please ignore my previous message. It didn’t correspond to your widget. Thanks.
