One thing I plan to do with this new weblog of mine is post reviews of albums I think would be worth your time checking out. The first comes from the band Dark New Day. Take five excellent musicians who grew up together, spent 12 years in other bands, and then had the opportunity to realize their dream of playing in a group together and you have Dark New Day. Of particular interest to me is the inclusion of Brett Hestla of Virgos Merlot on vocals and Clint Lowery of Sevendust on guitar. All of the members of the band served as songwriters in their previous projects and that definitely shows with strong songs reminiscent of Sevendust, Chevelle (for whom I saw them open), Fuel, and Alice in Chains. The first single is the song “Brother,” written about the Lowery family and their father’s time spent on the road away from the family. The song is a great introduction to the band, so listen for it on the radio. Other standout tracks include the aggressive “Pieces” and the emotionally intense “Evergreen.” Go to the band’s website to hear four tracks from the album.

This is GREAT album if you have no taste in music, or if you’re deaf. “Brother” should be played in prisions to punishment the inmates. But seriously, it’s great that the 5 friends realized “why play crappy music with other bands when we can get together and do it ourselves”. Just my $0.02, and really, I wouldn’t be surprised if this commend was deleted just because it wasn’t inline with your thoughts. Heaven forbid that someone out there reads a comment contrary to yours!

What a great collection of musicianship in today’s mass of hip-hop influenced, brainwashed thug-slosh of sound that is constantly shoved down our throats! Bare bones just reminds me of what good modern rock sounded like. Sevendust must really miss Clint, as it’s obvious to me who carried the writing there. Lean reminds me of a tight and sober Alice In Chains. These guys keep my flames of the great modern rock high and strong, and I think they did an awesome job combining catchy riffs and melodic harmonies for a great escape of listening pleasure.
